It is important to distinguish between the shady areas and the sunny areas in your landscape. Plants that are genetically designed to thrive in the shade will not do well in the sun — no matter how much you water them. Shade plants will burn and eventually cook in the sun. And plants that need full sun will grow lanky and sad in a shady spot. We’ve had enough “hard knocks” experience in the Tri-Valley and Diablo Valley areas to have a pretty good idea of which plants are which!
Because our California light is so intense and the way the sun moves through the seasons, it is sometimes challenging to define if an area is shady or sunny, particularly in those narrow corridors along the side of your house! In those sunny/shady spots we can help you find the special plants that adjust to their environment.
